What we hope to do

Our hope is to work with the people of Kamengo to help them get some of their basic needs met.

We hope to help the village farmers by finding ways to increase the output of their crops. We also want to start a livestock sharing program. Our first project will be with chickens. A chicken house will be built to house the chickens that will provide eggs for the village children. As more chickens are born they will be shared with families to provide them with eggs. If this program is successful we will begin a similar program with pigs, goats, and cows.

We also hope to raise money to help Craft Aid UK complete the clinic building that is currently under construction. The building will then be used to provide a place for regular medical clinics to treat the people of Kamengo.

Clean water is also needed throughout the village. There is currently one well that is providing clean water to the entire village. Some of the children walk up to 3 miles to get clean water. We hope to raise money to drill another well close to the clinic. We would also like to install rain gutters on some of the homes along with water collection tanks to help provide some of the elderly villagers with easier access to water.

Education is very important to the village. Most parents can not afford to send their schools that are on the main road. We hope to be able to provide all of the children in the village with a free education, by holding classes in the clinic waiting area until a school building can be built.

The women of the village are currently making baskets and paper beads to sell in the market in Kampala. We are hoping to train them to make additional items to sell.
